Hey Everyone... Nancy here... I wanted to take a minute to let you know that I am leaving my job at the Scrapbook Pantry. My last day of work will be April 2nd. I have met so many amazing people during my 14 months at the store and have learned so much about the scrapbooking/paper crafting industry.

I will be stopping by the store regularly as a customer as the Scrapbook Pantry is my favourite paper crafting shop! So perhaps this isn't "goodbye"... but "see ya around" instead.

These are great packages of chipboard shapes by Pebbles Inc... and we just love the "chip bags" they come in!

And these are two different products... the top rows are Droplets by Kaiser Craft... self adhesive flat circles. The bottom rows are Candy Dots by Pebbles Inc... self adhesive rounded dots. Both come in some really neat colours

We are very excited to show off the first of some new Canadian product we picked up while at CHA. Bisous (pronounced BEE ZOO) has some beautiful papers and stickers as well as a very intriguing product called PDQ.

We brought in one line of papers for Mother's Day and Father's Day A beautiful line of wedding papers
We also brought in two of their lines of PDQ double sided papers. These papers are almost a scrapbook page on their own... add a little of your own flair and you'll have a layout done Pretty Darn Quick!!

Lance made it to Calgary safe and sound on Tuesday afternoon after a wrong turn at Fort MacLeod... he was late, but the ladies in his class this afternoon did a little shopping, a little nibbling and a lotta chatting and had a pretty good time while waiting for him.
Lance has taught at some of the biggest events in North America including CHA and Creating Keepsakes University.... and of course, we can now add the Scrapbook Pantry to his resume.
We were thrilled to have him at the store today to teach two awesome projects to our customers.

~Yes, We Did Get to Disneyland~

After our failed attempt at Disneyland on the Saturday, we tried again on the Monday after a full day on the convention floor. We thought that the park would be open until 11pm, but alas.... winter hours... was only open until 8pm. We ended up with about 4 hours at Disney so we made the most of it...

On the tram... take 2! Will it really be the happiest place on earth??

Surprisingly, they actually let Allison in this time... I thought for sure her picture would be up at the gate after all of the misbehaving on our last trip to Disney

Don't ever ask Allison to hold your camera for you... lots of pictures like this on my camera! Christy and I were both cold in our sweaters when we got to Disneyland so we stopped at the first store we found to buy sweaters to wear over our sweaters. Who knew California was so cold??

I loved the Buzz Lightyear ride. Christy and I were in a car on our own but for whatever reason, the email photo never arrived. Crystal and Allison look so serious!!!

I'm not sure how it happened, but I made the decision to go on Space Mountain with Allison and Christy. I am really not a ride person, but I knew that if I didn't do it on this trip, I would probably never do it. I wasn't nearly as nervous as I thought I would be... and I ended up having a fantastic time on that ride! I could have done it over and over again!!!

We only got to do five rides (Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain) but it was a great taste of the Magic Kingdom. And now, I wanna go back.....

~It Was An Early Morning....~

We worked hard on the weekend to get the store rearranged and back together again. Truth be told, the classroom was a complete disaster this morning, but the front of the store was looking really really good! We not only had to have it ready for customers, but ready for TV as well!
We had a lot of fun with Jill and Rob from CityTV Calgary's Breakfast Television this morning. They both made it so easy for those of us who aren't used to be on TV all the time...
What a neat view in front of our store as the sun was rising in the East.... I think all the guys heading in to Cloverdale Paint early this morning were wondering what the heck was going on... was it newsworthy?? Teehee.

Sharon, Krista and I all got to do crafty segments with Jill and Allison and Christy did a little crafting and a little talking about the cool new products coming from several manufacturers.

I am still a little in disbelief that we were all on TV this morning... we had a lot of fun despite the nervous butterflies!

~We're Going To Be On TV!!~

Our good friend Allison Orthner has arranged to do her monthly Breakfast Television (CityTV) scrapbooking segment at the Scrapbook Pantry on Monday, February 9th!! There will be a total of five segments, shot live at the Pantry between 6 and 10am!! Allison will be talking about what she loved about CHA (the big tradeshow we were all at) and three of the staff will be doing Valentines Day inspired demos.

Yes, LIVE ON TV!

Now, we need your help! We would love to have some customers in our store on Monday morning... we're opening early.... and I mean EARLY!! We're talking the doors will open at 6am!

Anyone who joins us between 6 and 10am will receive a little present from us as a thank you as well as 25% off all regular priced merchandise (excluding MondayNightClass.ca kits). You'll also be treated to a little sneak preview of many of the new products we ordered at CHA!

We found a new stamp company while we were in Anaheim at CHA and after chatting with one of the designers (Cami Turnbow) and doing a make and take, we decided they would be great in our store. The company is called Our Craft Lounge.

An interesting tidbit... Marianne Walker who is the Product Specialist at Copic Markers has designed the stamps for this new company.

Take a look at some of the samples they had on display...

They also sell some beautiful glitters and some wonderful fluff.... as well as a new product called Sparkle Fluff.

We are looking forward to these new stamp sets arriving in our store!!

I totally spaced on the date for Lance from Rusty Pickle.... Lance will be at the Pantry to teach a daytime and an evening class on Tuesday, February 24th.

We are still working on getting the photos of the projects from Rusty Pickle and will post those as soon as we have them.

Registration for these two classes starts on Friday, January 30th.

~Another Company We Picked Up~

We picked up several new companies to the Pantry, including a handful of Canadian companies. We also found a brand new Canadian paper company in the new exhibitors section of CHA on Tuesday and knew that we had to place an order.

The following are some layouts using the papers from Blackriver Designs out of the Maritimes. We didn't order their entire line, but we did order a few of them... we're sure you're going to love them!!

I'll be back tomorrow with one more company we picked up.... the next one is for the stampers!

~Exciting News for the Pantry~

WOW, what a day we had. So much to see and do at CHA. You would not believe the number of beautiful products out there!!!! WOW! That being said, Crystal has told me that this years' show is a lot smaller than in previous years.

Anyway.... on to the exciting news!!!

Today at CHA we spent some time at the Rusty Pickle booth ... Lance from the Rusty Pickle will be in Alberta in February and he has agreed to teach two classes at the Scrapbook Pantry on Tuesday, February 24th!!! He will be doing two different kits .... one during the day and one in the evening.

Now, you need to hurry.... but not that fast LOL! Space is limited for these two classes but we will not be accepting registrations for them until Friday, January 30th. We need to get home and get them into the computer before we can have you registering.

Registration will be on a first come first served basis.

We are currently waiting for photos of the projects from the people at Rusty Pickle as well as information on the cost of these two classes.

We know that these will be such fun for all of our customers!

We really hope that you will help us welcome Lance to Calgary and support our efforts of bringing him to our store!

My apologies for not getting on to blog on Sunday night. We did a little work after dinner and then sat with our feet in the hot tub for a while before heading off to bed.

We had a full day on the trade floor (9am until 5:30pm) on Sunday and today we took off a little early to attempt to get to Disneyland again. The post on that will probably happen tomorrow as I'm sure these photos are going to take me a heck of a lot of time to upload.

How fair is it that I am sitting on my bed at 12:40am uploading photos to blogger and Crystal is falling asleep?? LOL! Oh well... would rather just get this done.

Meeting Christy Farrow and Vicki Garret from Hanna Stamps while take Copic University where I sit next to two ladies who own Scrapalicious in Mississauga and Oakville who know my sister who scraps there all the time!
And then tonight.... we tried to see
But after our tram ride....
We found out our special passes aren't valid until tomorrow night.... so, dejected, we went to Downtown Disney and had dinner and margaritas

And I, for once, didn't feel out of place in my true form...
And last night there were snails everywhere because of the rain that fell... pretty good photo for a point and shoot with a flash at night!

~We Were Separated Today~

What a day. First of all, our alarm didn't go off this morning. We had it set for 6am and Christy woke us in a panic at 6:45! We had to be at the Convention Centre by 8 and had to make ourselves beautiful and have breakfast before that. Somehow we managed to make it!! We are just that good. We almost didn't make it in time as the ladies made me carry all the bags... my punishment for sneaking along on this trip.

After a quick breakfast, we walked to the Convention Centre and the girls dropped me off in front of the building and they went off for another full day of 20 minute presentations by a bunch of different manufacturers. I am so sad that I missed out on some of the great things they saw from Spellbinders, Little Yellow Bicycle, SEI, Doodlebug, Heidi Swapp, Tim Holtz, Cropper Hopper, All My Memories, American Craft, BoBunny... the list was huge and the prizes just as big!

I, on the other hand, hopped on a bus with what started out as a bunch of strangers to go to the Stampendous Offices for a full day of playing and information. I found I knew one woman (Tanis Boland who is our Stampendous Rep in Calgary) and "knew of" two others... Cathie Allen from Western Education in Edmonton and Raya from I'm Impressed in Vancouver. I spent my day with Raya as well as two women from Pugnacious stamps. We had a lot of fun making some great projects and seeing where the magic happens at Stampendous.

I met up with the girls again at the end of the afternoon and we had a quick dinner before Crystal and I got busy writing up orders for our favourite vendors.

The worst part about today happened as a result of a full day of rain (who on earth said it never rains in Southern California???). Coming out to go to dinner there were snails all over the ground!!! I mean lots of snails!!!! After dinner, poor Allison stepped on one. Totally grossed us all out!!!

Tomorrow we are all heading off in our separate directions again... I am going to Copic University, Crystal is going to some brainstorming sessions, Christy is going to take some business oriented classes, and Allison is going to get busy with some of her "press" duties.

I think I heard that there are margaritas in my future as well.... I think we need one! Christy and I are having problems connecting our computers (with Vista) to the internet in the hotel room so there are four of us sharing two computers tonight... we have been upgraded to Level 2 Technical Support.... yup, margaritas in our future!

~First Day Of Business~

Hi Everyone... our first full day in Anaheim was full of information at day one of two of a special event for independent store owners. We participated in a wonderful round table discussion to gather some new ideas and then sat through several 20 minute presentations from some of the companies that will have booths at CHA (which starts on Sunday). We saw a lot of great new products today and there will be a lot more tomorrow!
We are going to be busy tonight in our hotel room writing up orders for some of these wonderful new products

If you are ever traveling with Christy Riopel, please make sure she double checks flight times. Apparently, she's not real good at it.... the girls flew using Buddy Passes with WestJet as Christy's hubby works for WestJet. When using Buddy Passes, you must be at the airport 3 hours before the scheduled flight... not only did Christy get the flight time wrong by almost an hour, apparently the WestJet international check in doesn't open until 8:30.... another 30 minutes

~February 11th/12th Card Class With Nancy~

Finally.... it took me literally all afternoon and part of this evening, but I have the samples done for my February class.

Card #1 came to me quickly, card #2 took some time to generate in my brains, but once it was there it came together quickly. But then there's card #3... it took me three attempts to come up with something that was going to work out.

The daytime class on the 11th still has quite a bit of space left in it, however the class in the evening on the 12st has only a couple of spots left. If you're interested in the class, please pop by or call the store to reserve your spot with a credit card (403 455 1558).

Students who register for this class should bring the following items with them (if they have them in their stash)
*acrylic block (required)
*adhesive (required)
*small sharp scissors for detail cutting
*paper trimmer (if bringing a Marvy trimmer, bring your straight and scallop blades)
*metal ruler
*craft knife

We had a couple of new things delivered this week...

First of all, all of the colours from the Chocolate Box line by Coredinations... brown on one side, coloured on the other side.... and if you distress the brown side you'll see the colour on the front. Some beautiful colours.

Also, the Twitterpated line by Imaginisce arrived....
Lots of great colours in these double sided papers!!

A big thank you goes out to all of the Customers who popped by the store on Saturday with birthday wishes!! We were amazed at the steady stream of customers that we had from the time we opened the doors until about 4:30pm! What a great way to celebrate our first birthday!

We apologize to anyone who had to stand in line for a while to pay for their purchases... the main cash can work pretty quickly, but the laptop is slower... and if you start moving too quickly with it, it will crash. We were honestly doing the best we could. We hope that the discount you got when you went to pay helped ease the pain of standing in line!

We really do appreciate your continued support of the Pantry! We hope you enjoy shopping at the store as much as we enjoy getting to know each of you!

We are very excited to be celebrating our first year of business on Saturday, January 10th, 2009. It's hard to believe how fast the year has gone by! We have learned alot and met so many wonderful and talented people!

To show our appreciation to our customers, we're throwing a Birthday Party!

Please join us at the Pantry between 10am and 6pm on Saturday, January 10th, 2009 for balloons, cake, prizes, demos, make and takes, goodie bags... and of course a SALE!! This sale is so good, Crystal hasn't even told the staff what it is yet... but we hear that it's the best the store has ever offered!
